Department careers page ↗Shoreline Fire Department traces its roots to 1939, when it was established as King County Fire District No. 4 covering about 14 square miles and roughly 57,000 residents. In June 2022 the department entered a Contract for Services with Northshore Fire Department to expand operational capacity, and in February 2025 voters in Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, and Shoreline approved consolidating the two departments into a Regional Fire Authority.
Today the combined agency serves about 25 square miles and roughly 96,500 residents with more than 180 full-time personnel, operating out of seven fire stations across four jurisdictions. The department is organized into Operations, Fire Prevention, Training, and Administration divisions, delivering fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical and water rescue, wildland fire suppression, Mobile Integrated Health, and community education and prevention programs.

Requirements
- Washington State EMT certification obtained within six months of hire (National Registry or out-of-state certification eligible for reciprocal transfer)

- Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification (within the last 12 months)
