About De Pere Fire Rescue

De Pere Fire Rescue serves the City of De Pere, a progressive community of more than 25,000 residents along the Fox River at the edge of the Green Bay and Brown County metro area. The department operates two fire stations, one on each side of the river, covering roughly 12 square miles.

Beyond the city, De Pere Fire Rescue provides emergency medical rescue to parts of the Town of Ledgeview, the Town of Lawrence, and Ashwaubenon, extending its combined coverage to over 25 square miles and an additional population of more than 10,000 people.

The department roots run deep: a private De Pere fire company was ordered to organize into a city department in 1871, and the Badger and Columbian fire companies consolidated to form the De Pere Fire Department in 1916. Today firefighters respond to fire and EMS calls while also handling fire inspection and public education through open houses, school programs, elder-care safety visits, and station tours.

MissionWe exist to serve our community.

How to get hired

De Pere Fire Rescue hires through the Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) Regional Hiring Process, with applications typically accepted each May. Candidates must already hold an associate degree, Firefighter I/II and Driver/Operator-Pumper certification, and current paramedic certification before applying.

The process moves from an online application through CPAT physical testing and a written exam, a Fire Department panel interview, and a Police and Fire Commission interview, ending with placement on an eligibility list. When a vacancy opens, the top candidate undergoes a background investigation, and appointment follows the Fire Chief's recommendation to the Police and Fire Commission plus a pre-employment medical exam.
