Stoughton Volunteer Fire Department

The Stoughton Fire Department is a combination department serving the City of Stoughton, Wisconsin, along with portions of the Dunn, Dunkirk, Pleasant Springs, and Rutland townships. It is staffed by three full-time personnel and up to 39 professional volunteers.

The department handles a broad mix of emergencies: structure and vehicle fires, storms and tornadoes, gas explosions, water rescue, industrial and farm accidents, and EMS and police assistance. It runs roughly 400 calls a year and belongs to MABAS Division 115 for mutual aid.

With Stoughton firefighting roots tracing back to the volunteer companies of the 1880s, the modern department pairs a professional full-time staff with community volunteers, many of whom use the role as a pathway toward a paid career in the fire and rescue service.

Stoughton is actively recruiting volunteer firefighters. The role is open to applicants who are at least 18, hold a valid driver's license and high school diploma, live within fifteen miles of the department's service area, and are willing to submit to a physical exam. No prior firefighter or EMT certification is required to apply, and the department encourages those interested in becoming firefighters or EMTs to join.
