About Cheyenne Fire Rescue

Cheyenne Fire Rescue traces its roots to a devastating 1873 fire that leveled two-thirds of downtown Cheyenne, a disaster that spurred the volunteer companies of the era toward professionalization. The department was formally organized as a paid force in 1909 and, within a few years, had modernized with an aerial truck and thousands of feet of hose. Today it serves as the primary all-hazards emergency response agency for Wyoming's largest city and capital, working alongside Laramie County partners.

The department is organized into four divisions — Operations, Emergency Medical Services, Training, and Inspection Services — and runs six fire stations plus a dedicated Administration/Public Safety Center and Training Center from its headquarters on O'Neil Avenue. With 102 personnel, Cheyenne Fire Rescue has set a stated goal of becoming the leading fire and emergency services provider along Wyoming's front range by 2028, emphasizing risk reduction and community engagement alongside its emergency response mission.

MissionCheyenne Fire Rescue will preserve life and property, promote public safety, and forge lasting partnerships to enhance the quality of life in our city, county, and state.
