About the Fire District
The Burney Fire Protection District (BFPD) is an independent, self-governed special district established in 1939 under California law, serving the unincorporated communities of Burney and Johnson Park in eastern Shasta County, about fifty miles northeast of Redding on State Highway 299 East.
The District provides all-risk emergency and non-emergency services - fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services including ambulance transport, and hazardous-materials emergency response - and is governed by a five-member elected Board of Directors.
BFPD is a combination department of volunteer/part-time and full-time firefighters. Its service divisions cover fire and life safety (public education, inspections, and code enforcement), emergency services, training and education, administrative services, and support services. Dispatch is provided by CAL FIRE through the Emergency Command Center in Redding, and the District maintains mutual aid with neighboring fire protection districts.
