About Gadsden Fire Department

The Gadsden Fire Department protects the city of Gadsden, seat of Etowah County in northeast Alabama, operating out of eight stations spread across the community. Its lineage runs deep: before the department was formally organized in 1882, fire protection was a loosely organized bucket brigade drawing from wells spaced along Broad Street.

Today the department is a full-service career organization built around fire suppression, emergency medical services, and fire prevention and public education. Operations run on a three-shift (A/B/C) battalion structure, each shift led by its own battalion chief.

Beyond suppression, the department maintains dedicated EMS and Training divisions, each headed by a division chief, reflecting an emphasis on both emergency medical response and continued firefighter development.

Mission"dedicated to providing rapid, reliable, and professional emergency services to the citizens of the City of Gadsden"
