The Village is seeking qualified applicants for Paid On-Premise Firefighters. The position reports to the Public Safety Director and is responsible for the operation of fire and emergency medical services equipment in response to emergencies. Firefighters perform rescue and fire suppression and prevention as well as duties delegated by law, ordinance, rule or regulation, or practice procedures/guidelines. Employees are required to participate in the operation of apparatus and perform hazardous tasks and administer medical procedures, where applicable, under emergency conditions as fire, heat, smoke, darkness, and cramped surroundings.

While firefighting and emergency medical services are essential and the most difficult areas of activity, a substantial portion of time is spent training and studying methods, techniques, and procedures and maintaining department property and equipment. The Village is supportive of and encourages opportunities for career development. It is expected , but not required, that Firefighters obtain an Advanced Firefighter certificate, complete the Illinois Department of Public Health requirements to obtain EMT-B Certification, obtain and maintain a Illinois class B driver’s license, and complete Fire Apparatus Engineer state certification. These certificates and licenses are to be maintained pursuant to Fire Department policy.

The minimum preferred requirements for this position are: • Illinois State Fire Marshall Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate; • Good physical condition; • 18 years of age or older at time of applying; • High school diploma/GED or higher; • A valid Illinois driver’s license with good driving record

Pay range is $21.72 to $40.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Incentive pay is available for weekend and holiday shifts. Firefighters are able to select their shifts pending supervisor approval, annual hours are not to exceed 1400. Benefits include an optional NCPERs life insurance plan, optional 457 retirement plan, and access to EAP services.
