The entire range of pay for this position is posted. Typical starting pay will be at the beginning of the range, depending on qualifications.
Primary Purpose
Performs firefighting, fire prevention, and rescue work. Maintains and cleans Fire Department buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Fire Captain, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Engineer, or an Incident Commander at emergency scenes.
Important Duties
Education & Experience
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Shall have current certification issued by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety in Firefighter I and II.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Must be knowledgeable in the principles, methods, and equipment associated with firefighting and rescue work; must be able to read and understand manuals and technical information; must be able to follow oral and written instructions; must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; must have good cognitive and analytical skills, must be able to handle stressful situations and can quickly assess situations; must be able to make decision under pressure.

Physical Demands
Vision defect cannot exceed 20/100 and must be corrected to 20/30 in both eyes; must be able to distinguish primary colors; must pass a post-offer medical examination including a hearing test; must be able to reach, hold and grip; must have lateral mobility; must possess the manual dexterity to use a computer and climb ladders; must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds for a distance of at least 50 feet; must be able to drag and/or push and pull up to 165 pounds for a distance of at least 50 feet; must be able to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods; work at heights above 100 ft or higher as required by the emergency situation; walk, crawl, run, jump, twist, climb, bend, squat, kneel.
Work Environment
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Will be exposed to life threatening conditions associated with firefighting, emergency medical situations, and hazardous chemicals. Exposure may be but is not limited to dust or pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical or mechanical hazards, poor visibility and ventilation, extreme noise and working in cramped spaces.
