APPLICATION AND TESTING DEADLINE IS JULY 26, 2026.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Fire Lieutenant and Fire Captain, the Part-Time Firefighter responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents, providing basic and/or advanced life support, fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, and all-hazard response services. May assume responsibility as acting officer-in-charge (OIC) when directed by a Fire Lieutenant or Fire Captain. This position involves ongoing training, public education, equipment and facility maintenance, and interagency coordination. Part-Time Firefighters maintain operational readiness, uphold professional and ethical standards, and contribute to the Division’s mission to protect life, property, and the environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Emergency Response
Wear and operate personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in accordance with NFPA standards. Preparedness and Readiness
Conduct daily inspections of apparatus, equipment, PPE, and station facilities.
Maintain physical readiness in accordance with Division fitness standards. Prevention and Education
Assist in public fire and life safety education, prevention programs, and community events.
Support Division initiatives to reduce risk in the community. Training and Professional Development
Participate in and complete required training to maintain operational proficiency.
Stay informed of current best practices, developments, and procedures. Documentation and Reporting
Accurately complete incident, patient care, training, and equipment maintenance reports in the Division’s records management systems (NFIRS/NERIS-compliant).
Notify a Fire Captain or Fire Lieutenant of incidents not covered by existing procedures. Compliance and Conduct
Operate within City and Division policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful completion of probationary period requirements, including assigned training, task books, and performance benchmarks. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under the City’s vehicle insurance.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (Examples only; not all-inclusive) Knowledge of:
City and Division policies, operating procedures, and applicable laws/regulations. Skill in:
Operation of all Division vehicles and equipment.
Safe and effective operation in high-stress environments. Ability to:
Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods under hazardous conditions.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION CRITERIA: Performance will be evaluated based on incident performance and adherence to protocols, quality and timeliness of patient care, compliance with safety standards and Division policies, accuracy and completeness of documentation, participation in training, readiness, and community engagement activities, professional conduct, and ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to Division goals.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position description is not an all-inclusive listing of duties, responsibilities, or qualifications. The Part-Time Firefighter may be required to perform other duties as assigned in support of the Division’s operational needs.
Candidates must pass the FireTEAM written exam and the Firefighter Mile or CPAT physical ability test by the job closing date to be considered for this position in addition to completing a City of Perrysburg employment application.
Hourly Rate for FFII Certification and Basic EMT Certification: $20.86 Hourly Rate for FFII Certification and Paramedic Certification: $23.17
