The City of Portland is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Chief / Fire Marshal. This position’s primary responsibility is the duties of the Fire Marshal, such as fire prevention inspections, plan reviews, and post incident investigations. Other management duties will apply as a secondary responsibility. Applicants must be able to pass a physical exam, drug screen and background investigation.

The City of Portland is a small suburban city located just north of Corpus Christi on the Gulf Coast. Portland has seen tremendous growth over the past 10 years with significant development on the horizon. The fire department is an all-career department with significant growth coming. The department has a regional HazMat team and a Technical Rescue team that serves a multi-county area. There are nearing plans for an additional station and second engine company. This is the time to join an amazing team of professionals and be part of the future.

Annual salary is $110,000 - $125,000- Higher salary opportunities with certification pay incentives and college education.

The City of Portland offers health, dental and vision insurance at no cost to the employee. Retirement is provided through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at 7%, with a 2:1 City match. An employee becomes vested in TMRS with 5 years of service. The City has an additional provision with TMRS to provide supplemental death benefits for employees and retirees. The City also offers a limited cafeteria plan and a 457(b) deferred compensation plan.
