PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fire Prevention & Code Enforcement • Conduct fire inspections for businesses, institutions, churches, daycares, and foster care facilities • Perform fire plan reviews in coordination with the Building Code Administrator • Investigate fire code violations and illegal burning complaints

Fire Investigations • Determine fire cause and origin • Investigate fire-related crimes and violations • Assist local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies • Respond to incidents after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed

Community Risk Reduction • Coordinate fire safety education programs • Engage with residents, businesses, and community organizations • Participate in community events and emergency preparedness initiatives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED • North Carolina Driver's License • NC Fire Inspector Level III • NC Fire Investigation Technician • NC Hazardous Materials Operations • NC Certified Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I • NC EMT-Basic • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800

Up to 12 months may be allowed to obtain certifications not currently held.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Three years as a Fire Code Official • Experience working with volunteer and combination fire departments
